Take the next step towards a career in tax law today

What Do Lawyers Practicing Tax Law Do?

Everyone is subject to tax law, which means tax lawyers can find work in virtually every employment sector. New England Law's Tax Law certificate program prepares graduates for careers at accounting firms, law firms, in tax departments, and in government.

From small businesses to multinational corporations to individuals, tax needs vary wildly depending on the client. For example, you might work with a nonprofit to make sure they’re compliant with federal and state tax law and regulations, so they can keep their tax-exempt status. Or as in-house counsel, you might help your company choose the best retirement plan for its employees.

Earn a Tax Law Certificate

New England Law's Tax Law certificate gives law students the opportunity to take specialized courses in taxation, increase their employment opportunities in the tax field, and pursue advanced education in a Master of Laws in Taxation should they so choose.

Tax Law Courses

This certificate is awarded in conjunction with our JD degree. In addition to foundational legal coursework, students pursuing a certificate in Tax Law must complete certain required courses, for example Taxation of Business Entities and Personal Income Tax. In addition, they can choose among many elective classes to meet their credit requirements. These may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Accounting for Lawyers
  • Business Planning
  • Estate Planning
  • Family Law
  • Modern Real Estate Transactions
  • Nonprofit Organizations
  • Tax Clinic
  • Additional Tax Electives

Experiential Learning Opportunities

Learning Outcomes

A Tax Law certificate from New England Law will provide a strong foundation upon which students will study and understand several areas of tax law, the policy considerations underlying those tax subjects, as well as the ability to interpret, apply, and plan or predict the likely result when addressing a specific tax issue.
