Gary is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and earned his J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis, where he was also Dean Kent Syverud's research assistant for two years. Gary's career as an attorney and educator has focused on poverty law and the delivery of accessible legal services to underserved populations.  

During law school, he completed a three semester clinical internship at St. Louis’ fair housing agency, the Equal Housing Opportunity Council. Since his admission to the Massachusetts bar, he has focused on serving low-income and marginalized client populations, concentrating primarily on civil rights and discrimination actions, eviction defense, homelessness prevention and consumer protection. Over the past few years Gary's shifted his focus to clinical legal education. Before coming to New England Law, Gary was an instructor at both Harvard Law School's Legal Services Center and the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, and before that, at Boston College Law School.
